Jamie Danesi / I Remember the Color of It
Jamie Danesi is a Los Angeles–based painter whose work explores memory, movement, and place through layered abstraction. Working intuitively with gesture, color, and varied textures, her paintings build atmosphere through instinctive mark-making and layered surfaces, often drawing from travel, photography, and lived experience.
Created exclusively for Tacit, Danesi’s newest series, Memories Left Behind, is informed by her time spent in Marfa, Texas. The works reflect impressions of landscape, light, and fleeting moments that linger long after a place has been left behind. Titles such as I Stayed a Little Longer, We Didn’t Go Inside, Something About That Afternoon, and We Watched the Sky Change read like fragments of memory — small narratives shaped by atmosphere and experience.
Built through cycles of adding, scraping back, and reworking the surface, each composition carries the visible history of its making. Marks hover between spontaneity and restraint, allowing space, color, and movement to quietly shape the atmosphere of each piece. Rendered in a warm, shifting palette, the works invite a slower kind of looking — where subtle textures, gestures, and traces of earlier layers gradually reveal themselves over time.
