Celia Lees / Allow Us

$3,777

Celia Lees is an abstract artist. She began painting in search of self expression and more profound connection with both life and herself.

Celia Lees often works in large scale format, using the motions of her body to intuitively inform her applications onto the canvas. This series of smaller scale works, while rare in Celia's practice, was made possible by using offcuts from larger canvases. In other words, she created large scale works and took the most impactful areas of the canvas to make its own individual piece.

Celia often uses found objects within reach as tools to apply paint. She finds that her surrounding environment and the objects in close proximity to her heavily influence her work. Although Celia’s work is impacted compositionally by her tools, Celia is rarely inspired by tangible objects. She more frequently finds her art being influenced by internal feelings or emotional connections she holds with other humans. A constant pursuit of painting what does not exist, and what can not be said.

Celia has exhibited across New York City and Hong Kong amongst many, and her work is held in private collections worldwide.
