Keren Toledano
Keren Toledano is a self-taught artist and writer based in New York City, where her practice moves fluidly between image and language. With a BA in English from Harvard and an MA in Arts & Humanities Education from NYU, her creative path first took shape through words — as a literary agent, Hollywood story editor, and published fiction writer — before shifting toward the visual, when a bout of writer’s block became an unexpected invitation to explore painting.
Today, her work exists at the intersection of the literary and the abstract. In her studio, syntax takes new form: stains on raw canvas read like adjectives, hard-edged shapes land like nouns. Her paintings unfold as visual sentences, evoking a pre-verbal poetry where what appears fixed is often the echo of something more elusive underneath.
Keren's practice is a quiet rebellion against categorization — rooted in story, reaching toward the ineffable, and always in pursuit of what lies just beneath the surface.
