Laurie Boudreault’s work centres on minimal, expression-led abstract figuration. Through instinctive mark-making, layered surfaces, and a trust in imperfection, she explores the complexity and contradictions of human emotion.

Working with warm, contrasting colours and subdued palettes, Boudreault creates pared-back forms that invite vulnerability, ambiguity, and reflection. Her choice of materials reflects a desire to preserve spontaneity and emotional honesty, drawing from the freedom of sketches and childhood—moments created without the pressure of a predetermined outcome.

Before dedicating herself to painting, Boudreault built a career spanning graphic design, fashion, and concept retail. These experiences continue to shape her sensitivity to colour, composition, materiality, and human behaviour. Her inspiration often comes from the overlooked: fleeting interactions, traces of colour in everyday life, or the subconscious reveal of a sketch. Her practice reflects an ongoing curiosity about acceptance, intimacy, motherhood, and the small moments that shape our sense of self.

Now based in Tofino, Canada, Boudreault paints between the tides and the moody rainforest, where surfing remains an integral part of her life. Through her studio practice, she continues to explore how images can express what words cannot.
