Studio Sessions with Marcia Bianchi
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: Inspiration can come from anywhere, but usually a sure thing for me is music. When I discover the right artist or record, I can take it to the studio and paint for hours.
Q: What is your favourite medium and why?
A: I love working with oil paints for their texture. I love the way the paint feels when I’m mixing my palette, or when I’m brushing it onto a canvas.
Q: Who are some of your favourite artists?
A: Gerhard Richter is probably my favourite person out there. Even though my style has evolved over the years, his work has always resonated with me.
Q: Do you have a day job? If so, what is it and does it influence your creative process in any way?
A: By day, I am a graphic designer. Each practice influences the other, which is why I love doing both. The main thing I work toward when designing is good communication, and I feel like that’s the same with art. If my piece can convey what I’m trying to say to the viewer, then it works and it’s done. Either way I’m exercising the technical stuff, but I can step away from one long enough to come back to it and feel peaceful.
