Alison Kruse / Annex
One of the pieces featured in our capsule collection with the AGO - Art Gallery of Ontario.
Alison Kruse is a Toronto-based artist who attended Queen’s University Fine Art Program. She works in photo collage illustrations and oil painting. Her work is inspired by the distinct characteristics that make a place unique and how they evoke emotion. In addition to her creative practice, Alison studied Communication Design at Emily Carr and the British Columbia School of Technology. She has attended Gulkistaad residency in Iceland, Obras Foundation in the Netherlands, and Ateliers Fourwinds in France.
How many people do you know in Toronto who are just dying to live in the Annex? It's almost like an early-adult right-of-passage. Let's face it — the Annex is stunning. Heritage buildings, luscious greenery lining the sidewalks, polite neighbours offering a subtle nod as you walk past. We love that this artwork, however, depicts the interior of an Annex afternoon. It makes us feel safe and at ease. The beauty of the outdoors will be there when we choose to enjoy it, but for now, you can find us here.
