Andrea Solaja is a Serbian artist working across various disciplines. When Andrea was ten years old, she lived in a bunker for several months while her country, Serbia, was being bombed. Her sole source of relief was using her imagination to craft stories using the only candle light she had. The shadows projects on the walls would serve as shapes and characters in the stories she would create in her mind.

Her artistic practice now unfolds around the narration of that light. Andrea's paintings are symbionts of contrasting light and dark which narrate without revealing. This process allows her to release her emotions on the canvas the shapes are no longer obstacles, but manifestations of her creativity and resilience.

This work is made from mixed media on jute. Jute is a natural fiber obtained from plants of the Corchorus genus; it is a hard fibre, therefore the fabrics resulting from it are rough and resistant with a classic regular weave. Being a natural fabric, jute is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
