Welcome in...

Enter a one day only exhibition, featuring never-before-seen artworks.

We've outfitted a space in the heart of Leslieville with mid-century furniture, expansive ceilings, and natural light—a deconstructed gallery concept made to feel like an invitation into our home.

The exhibit features nine contemporary artists from Italy, Puerto Rico, the Netherlands, and Toronto to showcase the breadth of Tacit's community.

Show Statement

Inspired by Virginia Woolf's seminal essay A Room of One's Own, this exhibition explores the relationship between women, space, and interiority through the eyes of nine contemporary artists. In A Room of One’s Own, Woolf argues that in order for women to create from a place of intellectual and emotional freedom, they require access to spaces separated from the burden of domestic labour.

As time has passed since the essay’s original publication in 1929, the home and domestic sphere at large have evolved. Once a site of confinement for many women, the home has transformed into a space that can offer comfort and refuge from the outside world. The home acts as a powerful backdrop for stories of identity, self-expression, and the negotiation of power.
