Sara Gonzalez
Sara Gonzalez is a Venezuelan-born, Toronto-based mixed media artist whose work explores movement, memory, and the quiet rhythms of everyday life. Working primarily with layered textures, tonal palettes, and fluid mark-making, Sara creates pieces that balance depth and lightness, inviting viewers to feel the subtle shifts of motion within stillness.
Her practice is deeply informed by her role as both painter and mother. The gestures in her work echo domestic rhythms — fragments of daily routines, fleeting pauses, and moments of intimacy — that become translated into tactile surfaces and abstract forms. Gonzalez’s sensitivity to movement is not only visual but emotional, capturing the ephemeral qualities of time passing, the hush of transitions, and the lingering presence of memory.
Influenced by both her Venezuelan heritage and her life in Toronto, Gonzalez draws on natural elements, muted tones, and layered materials to create compositions that feel both grounded and transcendent. Her work offers an intimate reflection on the intersections of motherhood, identity, and artistic practice, revealing the beauty found in impermanence and the poetry of the everyday.
