M.K. Sadler is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, collage, design, and photography. Her work is deeply observational and playful, exploring emotional spaces, grief, and queerness.

M.K. grew up in Southeast Texas, looking up at walls filled with the ink paintings her grandmother had collected during her childhood in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Her grandmother’s influence, alongside a degree in Communication Design and over ten years working in commercial photography in Los Angeles, is what deeply informs M.K.’s practice and her exploration of form, color, and space.

Inspired by her childhood and weekend garage sales with her mother, M.K.'s work is rooted in second-hand materials, giving new life to canvas frames, old magazines, and dropcloth. Working in a range of inks, acrylics, pencil, and oil paints, she layers depth into her works in a way that resembles a layered life of meaning.

Ink and acrylic on canvas.
