Marcia Bianchi / Narcissus II
Marcia Bianchi / Narcissus II
Heavily influenced by psychology and the exploration of the mind, Marcia’s intention is to create pieces that will allow the viewer to experience a moment of ease.
This series, Narcissus, is a set of three canvases, each depicting a different viewpoint of Narciso, an ancient sculpture restored by Valerio Cioli during the Italian Renaissance. Today, the prevalence of self-curated social media feeds can feel new and unnatural. However, the myth of Narcissus dates back to classical antiquity, revealing connections between our current behaviours and ancient ones. Narcissus is a contemporary reinterpretation of a historical work, inviting viewers to contemplate a timeless theme and find parallels to their own lived experiences.
Our Curator recommends selecting a walnut frame, which is how we had previously framed Patina, another artwork by Bianchi with reminiscent subject matter — pictured here.
