M.K. Sadler
M.K. Sadler s a multidisciplinary artist working in painting, collage, design, and photography. Her work is deeply observational and playful; exploring emotional spaces, grief, and queerness.
She grew up in Southeast Texas looking up at walls filled with ink paintings her grandmother had from her childhood in Shanghai and Hong Kong. This influence, along with a degree in Communication Design and ten plus years of working in commercial photography in Los Angeles is what informs her practice and exploration of form, color, and space.
She is inspired by using second-hand materials, giving new life to canvas frames, old magazines, and dropcloth. A practice that began in childhood with weekend garage sales with her mother. Working in a range of inks, acrylics, pencil, and oil paints, she layers depth into her works in a way that resembles a layered life of meaning.
