Studio Sessions with Rachelle Warkentin
Q: Describe your art in three words.
A: Emotive. Loose. Texture.
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: I draw inspiration from portraits that I've captured, either in photography or sketch.
Q: What is your favourite medium and why?
A: Currently, oil pastel. My lines are what make my pieces come alive and lately I've been using oil pastel for this.
Q: Who are some of your favourite artists?
A: Wassily Kandinsk, Irving Penn, and Zoe Pawlak are just a few that come to mind.
Q: Do you have a day job? If so, what is it and does it influence your creative process in any way?
A: I took a break from the corporate world to be home with my daughter when she was born. Since then, I have found a way to balance my art profession with motherhood and it works for now. I actually find the opposite to be true so far; my creative process influences the way that I approach motherhood. Everything from how I schedule my time to the activities I plan with a toddler. My art practice and motherhood journey are very intertwined.
