Studio Sessions with Rebecca Hubert
Q: Describe your art in three words.
A: Textured, demure, whimsical.
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: From everyday moments, small joys that I want to make last. Sometimes works are inspired by travels or places, made with an impressionistic twist.
Q: What is your favourite medium and why?
A: Oil paint is my preferred medium. It’s just the right amount of texture when paired with a wooden board. I love the weight of it, yet you can also make it feel light depending on the technique you use to apply it.
Q: Who are some of your favourite artists?
A: William Nicholson is my favourite artist, his still life’s are so delicate and lovely. The way he played with light and shadow always leaves me enamoured. I also love the current works of Bonnie Gray, and Emilie Gignac.
Q: Do you have a day job? If so, what is it and does it influence your creative process in any way?
A: For the past four years, I have worked mostly as a Research Analyst in the environment and sustainability sector. I am most passionate about my work and though I do not specifically paint such I am always most creative after a trip up north or walk through Toronto’s many ravines.
