Janice Cormier is a ceramic artist whose practice is informed by a deep connection to the landscape. Her works speaks of time, place, and relationship with the earth. The organic forms and tactile surfaces echo the natural landscape elements from the places she has called Home – Atlantic Canada, Northern California, and Québec.

Janice initially studied health and social sciences before developing a strong interest in ceramics. While living in northern California, she honed her skills through self-teaching, mentorships, and workshops with established ceramic artists and sculptors. She has since participated in gallery exhibitions and juried art events in Canada and the United States. Originally from the east coast of New Brunswick, Janice currently crafts her sculptural ceramic works from her small urban studio in Montreal.

Part of the series Vessel as Repository for Human Emotion, this sculptural work is formed from foraged clay enriched with mineral inclusions, wood ash, and glaze. The piece reflects the interplay between raw material and emotional expression, embodying the vessel as both a physical and metaphorical container.
