Angela Fiammetta / SHADES OF SKY I
Angela Fiammetta is an abstract artist based in Bedford, New York, who creates stitched paintings from pigment, cotton, and thread. She paints lengths of canvas, cuts and tears them into fragments, and arranges those fragments into compositions before sewing and stretching them.
Angela Fiametta's PARTICULATE series draws on a sustained observation of color in the natural world. What appears to be a single color from a distance often reveals countless variations up close: in the scales of a butterfly wing, the surface of a mineral, or the shifting light across water.
Fiammetta explores this through stitched paintings assembled from hand-painted cotton canvas. Each fragment contains its own variations in color and mark, while its placement changes how the surrounding colors are perceived. Together, these individual passages create the atmosphere of the whole painting.
The collection invites looking at different distances. From across a room, a painting reads as an overall impression of color and light. Moving closer reveals the fragments, painted details, and stitched seams that form that impression. PARTICULATE gives physical form to an idea that runs throughout Fiammetta’s practice: the closer she looks at color, the less singular it becomes.

Angela Fiammetta
Angela Fiammetta is an abstract artist based in Bedford, New York, who creates stitched paintings from pigment, cotton, and thread. She paints lengths of canvas, cuts and tears them into fragments, and arranges those fragments into compositions before sewing and stretching them.
Her practice is rooted in close observation of color and light. She is interested in how colors change in relation to one another, and how a painted surface shifts with the light throughout the day. Cutting apart the canvas allows her to revisit each painted passage, bringing colors and marks into relationships that emerge through the process of arranging.
